Arts - Social Sciences & Humanities

Politics & Religion – a fiery combination that shares a common table at Murdoch. In fact, you’ll also find Creative Writing students studying next to Counterterrorism students, history graduates debating next to someone reciting Shakespeare.

Yes, the School of Social Sciences & Humanities is a melting pot. Fascinating and diverse as the world we live in. But it doesn’t just end with the sort of students it attracts. The folks staffing this part of Murdoch are what make the school all the more unique, earning a number of firsts along the way:

  • History is ranked Number One in Australia for overall student satisfaction.
  • English, Creative Arts and Philosophy are ranked Number One at teaching generic skills.
  • Security/Terrorism/Counterterrorism and Politics/International Studies are ranked Number One in WA.

But that’s not the only thing that’s being rewarded. A rewarding career can be found with a Social Sciences degree. In fact, it’s a growing career choice worldwide with a workforce on average younger than other industries and often incredibly passionate about their chosen field of work.

Also worth knowing:

  • Security/Terrorism/Counterterrorism was the first course of its kind in Australia and is now popular with police forces in every state.
  • Parliamentary and Public Policy Internships include working with a State Politician or public service agency on actual policy.
  • Live and learn in Japan or Indonesia as part of your Asian Studies course.

See, we didn’t lie when we said it’s a melting pot. If you like a taste of the exotic or a hint of excitement, come experience it for yourself today. Who knows, you may just end up sitting next to someone who believes that the world is rectangular.
